The Importance of Absurdity

You know what I say? Who needs Wild At Heart when you've got Remains of the Day?

I will admit that I've read a bit of WAH. That's what happens when you end up at Barnes and Noble on a boring Saturday night. I usually stay very far away from "the new things" when it comes to Christian books (although, I did buy Boy Meets Girl by Josh Harris). But I gave WAH a chance because one of my friends, who has very good taste in books, recommended it. And honestly, it didn't really do too much for me. I have recommended it to some of my friends though, friends who I think might could benefit from reading it. And my dad got it for Christmas this year, so maybe I'll eventually finish reading it all. But that's besides the point. The point is, I've heard so many people say "If I could just get all the guys in my [insert various life/education stage] group from church to read this, all would be well. They'd start pursuing girls [read: me] and stepping up and asking girls out. And thus, acting like men". I could go on and on about my problems with that statement, but I won't. I will say though that the thought of girls "manipulating" (surprise, surprise) guys with the book sickens me. And also, actually asking girls out does not mean a guy's acting like a man. But that's a different argument for a different day.
You see, if a girl really wants to get a guy to ask her out (or ask someone out anyway), she ought to have him read Remains of the Day by Ishiguro Kazuo. We just finished reading it the other day in English. And I kid you not, I talked to at least 3 different guys yesterday who said that after reading that, they'd never again pass up asking a girl out. I will, from henceforth, be encouraging ALL my guys friends to read it.
(And now John will proceed to mock me for, again, posting about stuff from English class. But that's alright. He can kiss my ass. :P )
