The Importance of Absurdity

Oh, and by the way...22 unique visitors today (errr, yesterday)?!? Where did that come from? And how come, with that many different visitors, no one commented at all? Seriously...who's from Houston? And who's from MIT? And who's from UNC? You people (that aren't regulars, 'cause I know who you are) need to comment and let me know who you are!

I'm a creature of habit if ever there was one. I mean, I've always known that...but a friend of mine pointed something out to me the other day. And even I have to say, it is a little scary. You see, I'm currently on my third crush on a guy named David in 10 months. 10 MONTHS! Very much psycho. And even worse (well, better actually) is that 2 of them were (and still are) in rock bands. Maybe it's a sign. Or maybe I'm just silly. Heh, yeah...my money's on the latter.
(But you have to admit, it's really rather odd none the less!)

In relation to that last post, I need to clarify something...I'm not completely self-absorbed and such things. Or at least, I hope not. The reason I found that rather unsurprising is that my friend just told me the other day that I'm extrovertedly introverted--I'm really nice and outgoing and all that...to myself. 'Cause I don't like people as a general population. Which is why I found that rather amusing. And, of course, everyone knows I'm completely and utterly obsessive-compulsive.

As of tomorrow, I will have spent 8 years in Durham Public Schools. And thus far, I've survived. Quite the miracle. No, really. I'm surprised I'm still in one piece. It's really hard to believe I've lived here for 8 years. But at the same time, it feels like I've always lived here. In many senses, I wish I had. The best part about living here for the past 8 years...well, no wait. That's not really fair. I don't think I can honestly pick the absolute best thing about living in Durham. There's been so stinkin' many. But one of the most awesomest things is the anniversary that takes place a week from today--me and Jessica's (my best friend) 8 year anniversary. Of the first time we met, that is. It cracks me up that I still remember my exact thoughts when I met her the first time ("Man, what a girl. That dress is so STUPID!"). It was Easter Sunday of 1996 and we'd been living her about a week. My brother and I sat in Sunday school and watched all the other kids walked in. I don't think Jessica has ever walked anywhere...she glides on occasion, and stumbles along at other times. That first day was no different. She flounced in and sat down across the room. The poor kid was wearing this awful hugely-flowered dress and she still had that ridiculously long hair (which pretty much no one else but me remembers).
People (especially our mothers) make comments all the time about how we're such odd friends. And I s'pose they're right. When it comes down to it, we're pretty much nothing alike. Which is probably a good thing (it means we're attracted to completely different types of guys...I mean, in 8 years, we've only once been interested in the same guy and that was at different times). And a fun thing. She keeps me silly and I keep her thinking. I add adventure and she adds sensibility. I maintain punctuality and she's eternally running 15-30 minutes late. She at least tries to be sweet and...well, we all know how I am. She'd spend her whole life performing and I'd spend mine reading and writing. She's the beauty, I'm the brains (just kidding...sorta).
In any event, I like that kid a lot. So, in her honor and in honor of our approaching anniversary, I thought I'd post my second favorite picture of us ever (my absolute favorite is us with Anna after the play last year, but I don't have that scanned).

I've decided that it's time to post some fun pictures. So here ya go.
This is Wendy, myself and Jasmine at Wendy's potluck dinner party.
This is me, Anna and Lydia...ummmm, in an old tv box in Anna's backyard...pretending to be pirates.
This is part of my extended diving team in the hot tub (I'm next to the girl in purple).
This was taken when I was "studying" at Duke Gardens...

Do you know how much fun it is to finally own your favorite cd of all time? Yeah, I know, it's an odd question, but even though I've loved Land of the Living for a good 2 years, I didn't get it 'til last night. 'Cause I'm a poor high schooler who gets robbed on the job (another story for another day). In any event, Eric thought it was pretty funny that I didn't have LotL. He enjoyed my practice of stealing the cd from Jessica for a month at a time and committing(/recommitting) the songs to memory.
The show last night as a whole was awesome. Better than I expected, actually, since I didn't know 'til about 2 hours before I left that Gabe Scott's playing with Eric this go 'round. And so, as usualy, Eric was amazing. I actually made it through without crying this time (although, These Three Remain was close...and Anna all but cried too). It was kinda fun knowing every song he played. I felt special. Or something. SpencerAcuff was awesome too. Actually, they were better than awesome. I thought they were phenomenal. I couldn't even tell you why. I saw them Saturday and they were great then too, but something about last night was just incredible. I loved it. And Anna and Nora did too. Good stuff. Also, it was fun to finally meet Dave. They're good kids. The other good part about last night is that Dave told me they're probably playing at Skylight again on April 30...which finally gives me the perfect excuse not to go to prom! Score!
