The Importance of Absurdity

So, I realized after I posted yesterday that I really didn’t do the SA show any justice. It was so much cooler than I made it out to be. The orchestra played with the band on New Horizon, Aftercare, Coldfeet and Moment Golden. And it was good. It was very good. They sounded great (not quite as good as at Six String, but that was one of the better live performances of any band/artist that I’ve ever heard). And even though Dave couldn’t get anything out of his acoustic and had to play electric on North Shore, it was cool. It was a nice change to the song. I loved hearing Chucktown again--that may very well be my favorite SA song. It’s between that and Beauty. I wasn’t expecting the orchestra on Coldfeet, which made it really really sweet. The awesomest part of the night though, was them opening with New Horizon. At the end of the song, they do their “Doobie Brothers shoutout” and sing “with me, Jesus is still alright” several times. And WOW. Talk about proclaiming Christ’s name. It echoed throughout the auditorium. It's not that I'd never heard it before. I've heard it live 3 or 4 times. Maybe it was just the knowledge that the majority of people there weren’t Christians, but it was so poignant, so…well, chilling. But yes, overall, the show was awesome. The only thing that could have made it better was if they’d played Beauty. But that’s ok. I’ll hear it Friday (hell yeah for Friday!). Oh, and speaking of Friday…I’m gonna have 2-3 hours to kill between the show and the after-prom parties. And I’m thinking I really don’t feel like going home and leaving again at 1am. Any suggestions of what to do to pass the time? A movie, maybe? I dunno.
Anyway, I took quite a few pictures Saturday night, but I took most of them without flash (I don’t like using flash at concerts and such and I was far enough away that the flash didn’t really do me much good)…but that means that all the ones without flash are really blurry. This is by far the best one that came out, which rocks since it’s one of the few I took with the whole band and the orchestra playing. There’s a few more here and the rest were blurry enough that I didn’t upload them. I also took some Sunday night, but the same thing happened, so I just have the one of Sandra. But I know several people were interested in pictures (and there’s a soundless video clip of “Driving”, which is fun), so have at it!
