The Importance of Absurdity

So, funny story. I wasn't gonna write about the concerts I went to this weekend, 'cause I feel like all I ever do anymore is gush about musicians. But then I was requested to do so. And then I was blown away by the show last night. So here I am.
The SA show was ubercool. Umm, rock bands with orchestras? Yes please. It was a lot fun, despite--no actually, because of Dave's not functioning acoustic and him calling Will a wuss. Very nice. That made me laugh. Those boys just make me laugh in general (and apparently, they make me look like I want to make out with them, but more about that later). And David Mikush band was great too. It was fun to see him play again.
But as great as Saturday night was, the Derek and Sandra show last night far surpassed it. After the opener, that is. I'm sorry, but I just have no tolerance for ridiculous worship leaders. The guy was a horrible writer and all the songs sounded exactly the same--including the ones he didn't write. I all but fell asleep during his set. But then, the ever-lovely, ever-incredible Sandra McCracken came out (wearing the cutest shirt too!). She opened with Times They Are A Changin'. There's nothing like starting off with some Dylan. Being that I was hardly 16 the last time I saw her, I hadn't heard any of her new stuff, I'd only read the lyrics. So it was fun to hear new stuff and not just Gypsy Flat Road songs. 'Course, anything she sang would have been frickin' amazing. I mean, there just aren't words to describe her. At least, no words in any language with which I'm even semi-familiar. If it weren't so trite, I'd say she sounds like heaven. Derek was also a lot of fun. He played most of my favorites, including Table for Two, Somewhere North, The Rich Song, Center Aisle and What You Want (the only songs that could have made it better would have been The Truth and Dance). It was a real treat. So was talking to him afterwards. Anyone who's ever been to a DWebb show knows the multitudes that hang around afterwards--nearly as bad as Bebo shows, except that with Derek, there's usually more males than females (whereas with Bebo, it's all females). But because it was a Sunday night (and because they mentioned they had to drive back to Nashville last night), almost no one hung around. As in, there was a group of 3 guys, another guy, two more guys, and me. And surprisingly, none of them talked to him for a long time. So I got to talk to him pretty darn quickly and I didn't feel like it was rushed or anything. And, he recognized me before I said anything (he couldn't remember my name, but he definitely knew I was from the .net). That was pretty fun. We had a nice little chat about driving home (as we both had long drives and early mornings), GMA week, Memphis, etc. And then I went to talk to Sandra. There was some idiot talking to her. He clearly had a huge crush on her (dude, who wouldn't?) and as soon as she would turn to say hi to me, he'd say something else. That went on for entirely too long. Eventually, he went to help Derek load the van. And then Sandra and I had a nice chat about Katy Bowser (ok, I admit, I'm a namedropper like nobody's business), school, driving and Memphis. It was, on the whole, a most enjoyable night, even though I didn't get home 'til 3am.

Here's my makeout-related funny story though (I can't believe I'm actually posting this, but it's really really funny, albeit at my expense). I walked into second period and was talking to my friends and so forth. My friend Lauren turns to me with this mischievous smile and asked, quite randomly, if I have a boyfriend. I told her no and she said that she didn't think I did. When I asked why her she asked, she told me this story--she had been talking to some junior that I honestly don't know. I might know who he is, but if it is who I'm thinking of, I've certainly never talked to him or anything and don't know how he knows me. But in any event, he was telling her that he went to his friend's orchestra concert in Winston Saturday night (read: the SA show). And he said that he saw me there (how he knows that I'm her friend, I have no idea) with my boyfriend. She told him that she didn't think I was dating anyone and asked him why he thought whoever I was with was my boyfriend (mind you, I was there alone). He said that he saw me talking to some guy and I looked like I really wanted to make out with him. As Lauren told me this, I was just kind of laughing, trying to figure out who it was. And then I realized--the only two people I really talked to at all that night (aside from Perry for like, 30 seconds) were Will and Dave. Egads! The really really funny part is, that thought honestly never crossed my mind that night! For either one! So I'm making it my mission to track that kid down and figure out who he saw me talking to...'cause I just gotta know. But anyway, my friends and I have been laughing about that all day.

And just on a side note for anyone interested, I have some pictures that I'll get up as soon as I have some time.
